All-inclusive car rental in Italy

Italy is one of Europe’s great driving countries — Renaissance cities, Tuscan vineyards, Amalfi cliffs, alpine lakes and two of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful islands in Sicily and Sardinia. A car turns a single-city break into the tour of a lifetime.

Italy is at its best with your own car — and at its most stressful when a rental desk pushes overpriced insurance and blocks a four-figure deposit on your card. DisDou solves both: book all-inclusive and your cover, excess waiver, unlimited mileage, taxes and airport fees are all in one clear price, with a No Deposit option so no credit card is needed at the counter.

Why book all-inclusive in Italy

Italy’s most magical places — hilltop villages, coastal corniches, vineyard estates — are exactly the ones trains and buses don’t reach. All-inclusive cover matters here because narrow lanes, high kerbs and gravel are part of the charm, so glass, tyre and underbody protection earns its keep.

Every booking includes CDW and theft protection with the excess refunded, glass/tyre/undercarriage/roof cover, €10 million extra liability, towing, roadside assistance, a fair like-for-like fuel policy, free cancellation up to one hour before pick-up, and 24/7 English-speaking support. See what “full coverage” really means, or whether all-inclusive is worth it.

Driving in Italy: what you need to know

Italy drives on the right. The single most important thing to understand is the ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato): historic centres from Florence to Naples are camera-controlled, and entering without a permit brings automatic fines that arrive weeks later — park outside the walls and walk in. Motorways (autostrade) are tolled: take a ticket on entry and pay on exit. Dipped headlights are mandatory outside built-up areas, and an EU or national licence is all you need.

The best regions to explore by car

  • Tuscany & Umbria. The classic — Florence, Siena, the Chianti wine road and Umbria’s hill towns such as Assisi.
  • The Amalfi Coast & Campania. Pompeii, Vesuvius and the cliff-hugging SS163 above Positano and Amalfi.
  • The northern lakes. Como, Garda and Maggiore with their mountain backdrops, close to Milan, Bergamo and Verona.
  • Puglia & the south. The trulli of Alberobello, sea-cliff towns and the Salento, with Bari and Brindisi as gateways.
  • Sicily. Greek temples, Mount Etna and baroque towns, best explored over a week from Catania.
  • Sardinia. Turquoise coves and a wild interior, with Olbia opening up the Costa Smeralda.

Suggested road trips

  • The Tuscan loop: Florence → Chianti → Siena → San Gimignano → Pisa.
  • Amalfi & the south: Naples → Sorrento → the Amalfi Coast → Pompeii.
  • The Sicilian circuit: Catania → Etna → Taormina → Syracuse → the baroque southeast.

Italy car rental — frequently asked questions

Can I rent a car in Italy without a credit card?

Which locations in Italy can I rent from?

Popular pick-up points include Bari, Bergamo, Brindisi, Catania, Florence, Genoa and more. Choose your airport or city in the search box above to see all-inclusive cars.

What is included in the Italy rental price?

CDW and theft cover with the excess refunded, glass/tyre/undercarriage/roof damage, €10 million liability, unlimited mileage, all local taxes and airport fees, a fair fuel policy, free cancellation up to 1 hour before pick-up, and 24/7 support.

What is a ZTL and how do I avoid the fines?

A ZTL is a camera-controlled limited-traffic zone in a city centre. Do not drive into it without a permit — park in a car park outside the historic core and explore on foot.

Are Italian motorways tolled?

Yes. On the autostrade you take a ticket when you join and pay (by cash or card) when you leave; the toll depends on the distance.

Is it stressful to drive in Italy?

City centres can be busy, but the countryside and coast are a pleasure. Pick up at the airport, avoid the ZTLs, and you’ll be fine.
